EHRs Not Meeting The Challenges Of Primary Care According To New Study
"The human mind can do many things well. Digesting vast amounts of patient information while multitasking in time-constrained situations exposes a limitation. EHR technology should be able to complement or enhance physicians' abilities in these scenarios," said Regenstrief Institute Research Scientist April Savoy, PhD, who led the new study. "But current EHRs are overloading primary care physicians with information in disparate files and folders rather than presenting comprehensive, actionable data in a context that gives meaning.

Hospital Technology is the New Determinant of Patient Satisfaction According to EHR User Survey
Electronic health record technology and the ways that providers use it to communicate with patients and physicians is affecting how satisfied stakeholders are with their hospital organizations. The insight is revealed within the eighth annual Black Book industry surveys of inpatient EHR users including hospital staff, managers, networked physicians and patient panels. “Involvement with healthcare consumers through technologies is proving to be a significant element of patient satisfaction,” said Doug Brown, managing partner of Black Book Research.

Patients are Consumers, Too. Why a Portal Strategy Should Embrace Both
Patient engagement is easy, right? Just create a portal and tell patients it’s there. Of course, no one who puts a little thought into this idea believes it can be so simple. Healthcare isn’t “Field of Dreams,” after all. We can build it. They still might not come. But we still need to try and understand why, as this 2014 Health Affairs study found, the increased use of EHR technology has not created a parallel increase in electronic communication among patients and clinicians. In short, if patient portal use is an accurate indicator, how do we get patients engaged and hold their attention? One key issue might be that we’re not in agreement on what patient engagement is and what it is not.
