Misys Open Source Solutions Connect™ Has Won the Smart Healthcare Live 2011 Best Use of Open Source Award in the U.K.

Misys Open Source Solutions, LLC (MOSS) has received the international “Best Use of Open Source Technology” Award for their Health Information Exchange (HIE) solutions. The awards were jointly sponsored by the UK-based groups -- The Guardian, iSoft, and eHealthOpenSource.org. The goal of the competition was to recognize open source excellence in health and social care. The winners were announced on July 18.

The judges panel consisted of open source practitioners, academics, software vendors and clinicians who recognized the Misys Connect™ Solution from MOSS as the best use of open source technology in health and social care. The judges also recognized a project led by Moorfields Eye Hospital, called OpenEyes, a collaborative, open source, project that allows the rapid, and continuous development of web-based electronic patient records (EPR), with contributions from hospitals, institutions, academic departments, companies and individuals.

The open source, IHE-based Misys Connect™ Exchange combined with the Misys Connect ™ Portal are core solution elements needed in the creation of a community healthcare exchange. The solution is designed to provide clinicians and other members of the care team with the right information at the right time by making patient information available across organizational boundaries and venues of care. It not only facilitates and streamlines the sharing of patient information throughout the healthcare delivery system, but provides a single web destination where individual provider-facing web applications – such as electronic prescriptions, referral management, radiologic exams, secure messaging, and lab ordering – can be consolidated and accessed seamlessly by clinicians.
