Payam Etminani is the CEO and Co-Founder of Bitscopic. Etminani co-founded Bitscopic after a colleague, friend and mentor at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), John Lopez, contracted a hospital acquired infection at a VA hospital. While hospital acquired infections occur often, unfortunately, because of John’s advanced age and compromised immune system, he passed away despite the best care that the VA system was able to offer. With the thought that “there has to be a better way” and to honor John’s memory, the Bitscopic founders saw the potential for the massive improvements in veteran’s care that advances in Big Data and Machine Learning could bring. They began the company with three main goals in mind:
- Alerting: To make sure the data jumps off the page and yells at you: “I am the most important piece of information that needs to be looked at straight away!” To make sure that physicians and care providers don’t miss key insights that might be hidden in plain sight.
- Searching: To give the Subject Matter Expert the ability to find what they are looking for across vast amounts of data straight away, without having to worry about how they navigate through endless amounts of data.
- Workflow: To improve the workflow in hospitals and remove some of the time consuming, manual and mundane tasks in order to give healthcare professionals more time to focus on patient care.
The Bitscopic team has since developed and implemented solutions for the VA at the National, VISN and Hospital levels for Public Health Surveillance, Clinical Surveillance, Workflow Optimization, Precision Medicine and Clinical Trial Matching, with more applications in the pipeline.
Prior to co-founding Bitscopic, Etminani worked at the VA and before that at Ericsson. He is an accomplished systems engineer with well-rounded technology industry experience. Payam received his Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Engineering (B.Eng.) from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada.
